Foreign Workers Project:

As part of the final project in the Photojournalism and Magazine Photography course, we were required to create a photo essay on a social issue or a place with an interesting story, while conducting in-depth research. Suggested topics included issues such as pollution in Haifa Bay, abandoned settlements, the state of businesses, and more. The assignment involved creating a structured series of images: a vertical cover photo with a personal style that provides a general introduction to the article, a horizontal opening spread image, and an additional 3-6 images to accompany the piece. We were also asked to plan the composition in a way that would allow for the integration of text and logos during the editing phase.

After carefully considering a topic that would interest me and that I could develop into a meaningful article, I chose to focus on foreign workers in the agricultural sector. My decision was influenced by my surroundings—I live in a moshav and am surrounded by agricultural communities. I conducted thorough research on the subject and photographed over an extended period, documenting the daily lives of the workers, their workplaces, residences, shops, and recreational spots. Additionally, I formed a personal connection with one of the workers, and my article presents her personal story and perspective on working in the country.

Through this project, I was able to immerse myself in the world of foreign workers, understand the challenges they face and the processes each of them goes through, and document it in a way that provides the audience with an authentic glimpse into their lives.
